What it is
AI Without Borders is a practical learning initiative for people who are often left out of new technology conversations: newcomer, refugee, and multilingual adult learners. The project treats generative AI as something people can learn through use, reflection, and support, not as a tool reserved for already fluent or highly technical users.
The approach
The work centers on everyday tasks: writing clearer messages, exploring job options, preparing for interviews, understanding unfamiliar systems, and asking better follow-up questions. Instead of teaching AI as a set of abstract rules, the project teaches learners how to describe context, evaluate answers, revise prompts, and decide when human support matters more than automation.
Access to AI literacy should not depend on already having the language, confidence, or institutional access that AI can help people build.
Why it matters
Generative AI can widen existing gaps when only the most resourced learners get guided practice. It can also become a bridge when instruction is designed around real needs, plain language, and learners’ own goals. AI Without Borders explores that second possibility: AI literacy as a form of language, workforce, and civic access.
